These Terms of Service govern your use of Vanilla Chat software and website. By using Vanilla Chat, you agree to these terms.
By downloading, installing, or using Vanilla Chat, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the software.
Vanilla Chat is a local chat interface for AI models running on Ollama. It is provided as open-source software under the MIT License. You are free to use, modify, and distribute it subject to the terms of that license.
Vanilla Chat is available in two forms: a web application served by an Express server, and an upcoming desktop application built on Gelectron. Both versions provide the same functionality and are governed by these terms.
You agree to use Vanilla Chat in compliance with all applicable local, state, national, and international laws and regulations. You agree not to:
The desktop version of Vanilla Chat is powered by Gelectron, an open-source Electron replacement built on Rust and the OS platform WebView. Gelectron is MIT licensed and provided "as is." The desktop app has the same privacy guarantees as the web version — all data stays local, no telemetry, no data collection.
Vanilla Chat is an interface for AI models that run locally on your machine. The software does not control, filter, or take responsibility for content generated by AI models. You are responsible for your use of AI models and any output they produce.
Vanilla Chat is released under the MIT License. The Vanilla Chat name and branding are provided for identification purposes. You may not use the Vanilla Chat brand to endorse or promote modified versions of the software in a way that implies affiliation with the original project.
Vanilla Chat is designed to run entirely offline and locally. No data is collected or transmitted to any remote server. For details, see our Privacy Policy.
Vanilla Chat is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the software is with you.
In no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability, whether in an action of contract, tort, or otherwise, arising from, out of, or in connection with the software or the use or other dealings in the software.
We reserve the right to update these terms at any time. Changes will be posted here with an updated date. Continued use of the software after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States.
